Paris exhibition

70°N is represented with the Europan7 runner-up project at the exhibition 'Génération Europan' at Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris.

Back from Brazil

Arctic went capricornical but now we are back at the office after some wonderful days in Brazil. First in São Paulo with MASP and SESC Pompei of Lina Bo Bardi; Copan, Memorial da América Latina and Parque do Ibirapuera of Oscar Ribeiro de Almeida de Niemeyer Soares; MuBE of Paulo Mendes da Rocha and the beautiful Faculdade de Arquitetura of João Batista Vilanova Artigas. And cachaça tasting with Angelo Bucci at his office.. Then Rio with continuous cultural, architectural, musical, culinary and sunny experiences; a visit to Angelo Bucci's extraordinary villa in Santa Teresa, watching football at the impressive Maracanã Stadium, açai at Ipanema beach and sambadancing late at night at Centro Cultural Carioca or Rio Scenarium - to mention a few.

Oulu all stars

30 visiting architecture students from Oulu were squeezed into the XBO to hear about our work.

2018

The city of Tromsø wants to apply for the Winter Olympics in 2018. The first step was to deliver the national application to the board of the Norwegian Olympic Committee and Confederation of Sports, February 19 2007. A team of planners, architects, sports- and olympic games experts and graphists has been working to find the best solutions for the arenas, and to illustrate, with images and films, the games extraordinaire this could be!

Our friends and collegues of Dahl&Uhre are interviewed by Ingerid Helsing Almaas over 11 pages in Byggekunst #1 2007, on their work here in Tromsø and their ideas on the Arctic Cities exhibition. Cover illustrated with Anders Wilhelmson's idea for the Fehn Pavillion, inside illustrated with project photos together with graphics and images we developed together for the Venice Biennale and the year of urban development (Byutviklingens År).

The project in Torvdalshalsen is being presented in Topos #57 2006.

Arctic Cities in Stockholm

The Arctic Cities exhibition has now travelled from Venice to the Architecture Museum in Stockholm where it will be shown until the end of January 2007, a chance to see it for those who weren't at the Biennale this autumn. New Domus and Strandkanten are some of the projects exhibited.

Human Nature

The Skarsfjord cabin is presented as one of the examples of environmentally sustainable cabins and cottages in the book Hytter og miljø written by Chris Butters, Anne Mette Raaholt and Kim Skaara.
At the release conference the escalating cabin building was discussed and a speech was given by the former Minster of Environment, Helen Bjørnøy.

...quesadillas, tortillas, nopalitos, frijoles refritos, mole, salsa, chili-sushi - we learned a lot about food in México (thanks to Yasmìn and Federico!) and wanted to share all that with our friends, some of it you can see on this slide show..

¡México!

70°N was invited to the Arquinexo conference in Monterrey, Mexico. The stay was a great experience in all ways; architecturewise, foodwise, partywise, peoplewise.. We got the opportunity to talk with interesting people at the architecture school and with the other lecturers; Brian White and Michel Weenick of Architecture W, Benjamin and Chris of Aranda & Lasch, Angelo Bucci of spbr and Miguel Robles Duran and last but not least we got to know these wonderful architecure students, Yasmìn and Federico - thank you for your hospitality, the music, life and architecture talks and - of course - the great introduction to mexican cuisine!

White Adventures

For the norwegian 100 years of independence jubilee an exhibition was produced - Polar Norway. 70°N arkitektur created the design for the exhibition that was presented in two versions; one at the Tromsø Museum shown from early 2005 until late 2006, and one travelling exhibition that is now voyaging the world - from Murmansk, Russia to Savona, Italy and Washington..

Our National Tourist Routes projects appear in Forum AID 3.06 together with projects of 3RW, Saunders + Wilhelmsen etc. Also others have discovered our projects...

Detour exhibition

The National Tourist Routes , with several projects by 70°N , are shown in an exhibition at DogA , Oslo, the autumn 2006. A beautiful catalogue was made for the exhibition, and there is also a slide show showing the space and scenography.

Venezia visit

Some of us went to the 10th Venezia Architecture Biennale together with other people somehow connected to the exhibition; Kjerstin & Knut Eirik, the maire and other people from the municipality, journalists, tvibits and of course the Steenstrups!

Venezia Biennale

At the 10th Venezia Architecture Biennale Tromsø was exhibited together with Kiruna and Oulu under the name of Arctic Cities in Sverre Fehn's pavillion. 70°N exhibited several projects and was also part of the exhibition team, lead by Knut Eirik Dahl. In addition to the exhibition the web site northerngateway has been developed, as an extended, in-depth version where articles, photos, films, architecture projects and Tromsø-profiles are presented under the pressure of the melting ice..

LAG

The performance LAG, is created by dancer Liv Hanne Haugen, musician Anja Kowalski and Anniken Romuld of 70°N. Lag can be seen at Verkstedet, Tromsø Kulturhus October 19-22 2006 and at les Bains::Connectives in Brussels January 26-27 2007.

Domus news

The proposal for the new domus buiding got a lot of media attention after being presented at a press conference. The model will now travel to Venezia to be part of the Arctic Cities exhibition for the 10th Biennale of Architecture.

Symposium 2006

For the 2006 NAF symposium we invited architects and others from all Scandinavia to talk on the theme of the new future for the northern areas. We were happy to hear really interesting and clever lectures from; Hans Kristian Amundsen editor in chief at Nordlys, Lars Bendrup of Transform, Catharina Gabrielsson, Lene Edvardsen of Husbanken, Anders Wilhelmson of Wilhelmson Arkitekter and Johannes Pedersen of NORD - Northern Office for Research and Design. The debate continued under the midnightsun..

Tromsø guide

One fin d'hiver sunday afternoon Gisle and Magdalena did a photo trip - in Tromsø.
In the preparations for the Venice Biennale we wanted to make an inventory of the existing and coming architecture.. Subjective choices and grey winter light ended up as a small architecture guide to Tromsø.

Tromsø X-Files

Tromsø X-Files, TXF, aimed to show all the projects in the city centre - in different stages of the planning process, from idea to newly built. By uncovering and showing all these projects the habitants of Tromsø were given the possibility to discover a possible future of their city - and react to it. In an exhibition that filled the whole entrance hall of the city hall architects' drawings, photographs, posters, films and the large city model was presented during the autumn / winter of 2005/2006. Several events took place around the exhibition; debates, meetings, actions...
The exhibition was part of Byutviklingens År (the Year of Urban Planning) and created from an idea concept by Knut Eirik Dahl / Byutviklingens År.

London

70°N visited London, highlights from the trip:
Tate Modern of Herzog & de Meuron with Olafur's Weather Project and the Rothko room of course, visiting muf and Liza Fior, Laban Dance Centre (H & de M) and Saatchi's. Also the Gurkin and Lord Foster's Great Court at the British Museum got a visit from us..

For the 70°N Christmas party the bubble from the work-shop with Liv Hanne and Lawrence was re-used as part of the scenography..

Bubble work-shop

The studio organized by 70°N for the BAS-students included a work-shop with dancer Liv Hanne Haugen and artist Lawrence Malstaf. Investigating negative and positive space, body and movement by working with, unfolding, blowing up and entering the plastic bubble..
