Nordhavnen backyard

The blogging bakgård people are working on a very interesting project:
We have a new semester project at school. Our site is situated at Nordhavnen in Copenhagen, Denmark. 70°N and Dahl & Uhre won the 1st prize in Nordhavnen Open International Ideas Competition. In their winning proposal our teacher gave us three plots to choose from.

(They are more diligent bloggers than us so you have to scroll down a bit to find the post.. but are they working as hard on Nordhavnen as we are? We're eager to see the result..!)

Emerging Architecture Talks

Gisle has left for London to give a lecture at RIBA. That is if he manages to get there, yesterday almost no flights took off from Tromsø or landed in London - due to the snow..
So, hopefully, it'll be possible to discuss Emerging Architecture with Gisle and Junya Ishigami at 6.30 tonight, RIBA 66 Portland Place.

new news

Arkitektnytt with new format, lay-out, paper and design arrived today - and we like it.
This issue presents månedens bilde, architecture talks with Jonas Gahr Støre, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Jan Carlsen's article on our Nordhavnen project.

The xbo did some guest starring during Tromsø International Film Festival. Partly packed in snow it served as a head quarter / info centre in the main square - it has since retired to a new and quieter site..

edge dynamic weekend

In today's issue of danish Weekendavisen (#2 - Jan 9 2009) Peter Schultz Jørgensen writes, once again , an insightful and interesting article on ongoing processes and possibilities - with beautiful reflections on our Excentral Park - Edge Dynamics!

De bombet det sentrale grønnsaksmarkedet i Gaza by for to timer siden. 80 skadde, 20 drept, alt kom hit til Shifa. Hades! Vi vasser i død, blod og amputater. Masse barn. Gravid kvinne. Jeg har aldri opplevd noe så fryktelig. Nå hører vi tanks. Fortell videre, send videre, rop det videre. Alt. GJØR NOE! GJØR MER! Vi lever i historieboka nå, alle!

Architectural Review

All the awarded projects are published in The Architectural Review December 2008 (#1342), you'll find Torvdalshalsen at page 58.

And this is what the jury said:
'Jury criteria included sensitivity to place and context, awareness of ecological implications, constructional ingenuity, sensitive understanding of materials, and inventiveness in handling space and light. Projects had to demonstrate a clear commitment to improving human life, rather than being preoccupied simply with architecture as art.'
and
'70°N arkitektur's rest area at Torvdalshalsen in the Norwegian Lofoten Islands embodies a gutsy Nordic simplicity of form and clarity of execution. (...) The jury admired the project’s modest Nordic rigour that chimes instinctively with the harsh beauty of its setting.'

See also the article in arkitektnytt.

¡arRIBA!

We're back after some great days in London and the AR award festivities.
Our Torvdalshalsen will appear together with the other prize-winning projects in the December issue of Architectural Review, some of them really interesting. The projects will also be exhibited at RIBA until the end of February. At RIBA we met (entre autres) Olav Kristoffersen from Brendeland & Kristoffersen who received an award for their Villa Nilsen/Borgen in Trondheim - congratulations!

More about the prize and the project in D2, Nordlys, arkitektnytt..
